Hyland Shipping in Dublin has stopped accepting deliveries from Cherbourg due to damage caused by migrants stowing away on lorries.

Last week, the company received 90 loads from Cherbourg, with 9 of them being damaged by stowaways, with one lorry having six migrants still onboard.

Stowaways access the lorries by cutting holes in the roof or sides and hide within the loads, causing damage to goods and costing thousands of euros to repair the lorries.

The company suspects migrants may be moving between trailers on ferries and will not accept loads from Cherbourg until security is improved.
