Inishowen Tourism, through the Go Visit Inishowen agency, has launched a new accessibility campaign in February 2026 specifically aimed at making the peninsula’s walking and cycling trails more inclusive.
- Active Inishowen Webpage: A newly launched Active Inishowen hub that provides comprehensive information on routes, allowing visitors to plan trips based on accessibility needs and book experiences directly online.
- Trail Network Development: The campaign highlights three newly developed trail networks created in partnership with Inishowen Trails.
- Promotional Video: A high-quality video was released on Facebook and Instagram to showcase the region’s accessible outdoor offerings and natural beauty.
- Guided Activities: The initiative includes a calendar of free guided walks and cycling events designed to encourage participation from people of all levels and abilities.
Related Infrastructure Improvements
- To support these accessibility goals, several complementary projects have been introduced:
- Accessible Transport: A new accessible bus service operated by Spraoi agus Spórt was launched in late 2025 to help individuals with additional needs travel safely to community events and activities.
- Flagship Attractions: Initiatives like the shuttle service to Wild Ireland (operating July–August) aim to ensure major tourist spots are reachable for those without private transport.
- Future Initiatives: Fáilte Ireland is expected to launch a further series of trails in March/April 2026 focusing on unique local tourism opportunities.
The initiative focuses on improving facilities at key attractions, trails and hospitality venues across the peninsula, aiming to boost tourism by welcoming a broader range of travellers. It reflects ongoing efforts to enhance Donegal’s appeal as an accessible outdoor and cultural destination.
