Irish visits to USA slightly up in May as France shows big drop and overall down 2.8pc

Irish visits to the USA in May increased by 1.2pc compared to May 2024, and are back to 89pc of pre-pandemic levels.

March figures dropped by 27pc, but there was a 34pc rebound in April due to the later Easter holiday.

Overall overseas visitor arrivals was down 2.8pc to 2.959m in May 2025, which is 84.1pc of the May 2019 figures.

Europe saw a total of 7.473m passengers in May 2025, reflecting a 2.8pc rise compared to May 2024, alongside a 5.2pc increase from May 2019.

The top inbound USA ports for international traffic included New York with 3.095m and Los Angeles with 2.046m, while London Heathrow was the leading foreign airport with 1.629m arrivals.
