Lonely Planet co-founder Tony Wheeler (with his Irish wife Maureen) has named four locations he will not be visiting again, Russia, Saudi Arabia, USA and Bali.

A blog on his travel experiences expressed strong sentiments regarding Saudi Arabia, mentioning the murder of journalists and concerns over the treatment of domestic workers, revealed the plight of cheetahs in Somaliland, which enhances his aversion to Saudi Arabia and referred to the political turmoil resulting from Donald Trump’s presidency.

Bali was listed as a less desirable destination for Wheeler, due to frustrating traffic conditions.

Mr Wheeler shared: “I’m not going back to Russia for certain, as long as they’re buddying up with North Korea and the US to attack Ukraine. So many reasons I never want to go there anymore, whether it’s murdering journalists (Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul) or check The New York Times for the report on Saudis murdering East African domestic workers. Bali has great places to stay, wonderful art and dance, terrific food, great shopping if that’s your thing, but no way I ever want to spend another two hours of my life travelling between the Kuta beach strip and Ubud.”
