An Coimisiún Pleanála has granted a Railway Order with 12 conditions for the 3.9km Luas extension from Broombridge to Charlestown in Finglas.
Four stops operated at St Helena’s, Finglas village, St Margaret’s Road, and Charlestown. A park-and-ride facility opened at the St Margaret’s Road stop near the M50 and N2 roads. The system served an estimated population of 56,000 upon completion. Morning rush hour journey time reduced to around 30 minutes between Charlestown and Trinity College from 44 minutes.
Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien shared “This is a major milestone in expanding Dublin’s public transport network. Luas Finglas will offer thousands of Dubliners a fast, reliable, sustainable way to get around the city, helping to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality.”
