Three years after the peak of the pandemic, there remains uncertainty regarding when supply chain issues will be resolved, chair of the IATA Congress in Delhi Pieter Elbers has said.
Airlines worldwide are encountering similar supply chain issues due to a limited number of suppliers, affecting operational capabilities across the sector..
Speaking at the IATA Congress in Delhi, he said disruptions in the supply chain create significant challenges for airlines, with the extent of impact varying based on individual airlines’ order books and circumstances.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for air travel has consistently grown, yet obstacles in supply chain management have hindered market recovery.
The missed opportunities to capitalise on market demand, particularly in rapidly growing regions, are evident as the industry continues to navigate these challenges.
Pieter Elbers shared: “I think airlines all over the globe are facing exactly those issues. The number of suppliers, obviously, are limited. With the limited number of suppliers, it means that if there are some choking in the system, it affects pretty much everyone.Demand keeping on growing, it’s 25 now and we’re pretty much three years post-COVID. No end of sight yet on when it’s going to be addressed.”
