Sligo Park Hotel has installed 400 solar panels on its roof, projected to save over €25,000 annually on energy bills and significantly reduce its carbon emissions by more than 47 metric tonnes of CO2 each year.
The solar panels, which began contributing to the hotel’s energy supply last month, are expected to provide 35-45pc of the hotel’s energy during peak months from April to September, averaging over 20pc annually.
This initiative is part of the hotel’s broader commitment to sustainability, which includes opening a bug hotel and willow dome to promote biodiversity and educate guests about local ecosystems.
The hotel’s environmental efforts were recognized with an Eco-Label Award from the Green Hospitality Programme, reflecting its ongoing commitment to reducing reliance on fossil fuels and enhancing ecological stewardship.
