FAM TRIP: Spanish tourist board hosts the Irish travel trade in Lanzarote

The Spanish tourist board aimed to portray Lanzarote as a premium destination, inviting travel agents from Dublin and Cork.

Agents experienced premium offerings, including a guided visit to Los Jameos del Agua and access to exclusive behind-the-scenes areas. The volcanology museum recently reopened, providing virtual reality tours of a 9 km long lava tube.

The group stayed at the 5-star Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa, where different dining experiences were enjoyed each night. An ecological visit to the Salt mines of Janubio demonstrated traditional salt mining methods.

During the trip the group visited: 

  • Arrecife: The vibrant capital “‘of Lanzarote, known for its historic Castillo de San Gabriel, lively marina, and the picturesque Charco de San Ginés, a lagoon lined with colorful fishing boats and eateries.
  • Boat Excursion to La Graciosa: A tranquil, car-free island accessible via a boat trip from Órzola, offering pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and a laid-back atmosphere perfect for swimming and relaxation.
  • Cactus Garden: César Manrique’s final major work in Lanzarote, this former quarry houses approximately 4,500 cacti from 500 species across five continents, creating a fascinating botanical masterpiece.
  • César Manrique Foundation: The former home of artist César Manrique, built into volcanic rock, showcasing his art and vision of blending human creativity with Lanzarote’s natural landscape.
  • Costa Teguise: A modern coastal resort area with golden beaches, contemporary amenities, and a relaxed vibe, ideal for a scenic drive or brief exploration.
  • Dreams Playa Dorada Resort & Spa: A contemporary oceanfront resort in Playa Blanca, known for its upscale amenities, including the Exclusive Preferred Club Infinity Pool and Sea Legs Swim Up Bar, providing a lavish experience with Unlimited Luxury board.

  • Janubio Salt Flats: A historic site of traditional salt production, offering a guided tour and tasting of the delicate “Flower of Sea Salt” with local flavors, set against a striking landscape of salt pans and volcanic cliffs.
  • Mirador del Río: A cliffside viewpoint designed by César Manrique, perched 500 meters above the sea, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Lanzarote and the Chinijo Archipelago.
  • Monumento al Campesino: A rustic restaurant celebrating Lanzarote’s agricultural heritage, offering hearty Canarian dishes like papas arrugadas with mojo sauces in a culturally rich setting designed by César Manrique.
  • Playa Blanca: A serene coastal area known for its pristine beaches and upscale resorts, offering a picturesque glimpse of Lanzarote’s southern shoreline.
  • Teguise: Lanzarote’s former capital and one of Spain’s most beautiful towns, featuring charming cobblestone streets, whitewashed houses, and historic churches, exuding old-world charm.
  • Timanfaya National Park: A striking volcanic landscape in southern Lanzarote, formed by 18th- and 19th-century eruptions. Known as the Fire Mountains, it features red craters, lava flows, and a lunar-like terrain that showcases the earth’s raw, untamed power.
