The closure of Holyhead Port means thousands of Christmas deliveries to Ireland have not arrives on time, according to the Irish Road Haulage Association.

The Association warns that haulage companies may face closures, with approximately €2bn worth of goods currently stranded across the Irish Sea.

Hauliers are calling for €66m in financial support from the Irish Government to mitigate the crisis, emphasizing the industry’s crucial role in delivering goods to retailers.

Irish Ferries has put on an additional service between Dublin and Fishguard to cope with diverted cargo and passenger traffic.

The Welsh Government is working on alternative ferry routes and post Christmas contingency plans, but the timeline for reopening Holyhead Port remains uncertain.
