Travel accounted for 27pc of all bad bot attacks in 2024

The travel industry experienced a surge in bot attacks, , a report by Tim Chang of Thales has concluded, facing 27pc of all incidents, and bad bots comprised 41pc of traffic within this sector.

Automated traffic exceeded human-generated traffic for the first time in a decade, achieving 51pc of all web traffic in 2024.

AI tools have made it easier for cyber attackers to create and launch malicious bots, with bad bots making up 37pc of all internet traffic in 2024, an increase from 32pc in 2023.

Basic bot attacks have increased sharply to 52pc, while advanced bot attacks declined to 41pc in the travel sector, indicating changing tactics among attackers.

The report outlines the importance of adopting adaptive cybersecurity strategies to counter the evolving methods employed by bot attackers.

Tim Chang of Thales shared. “The surge in AI-driven bot creation has serious implications for businesses worldwide. As automated traffic accounts for more than half of all web activity, organizations face heightened risks from bad bots, which are becoming more prolific every day.”
