Trivago has reported a decrease in bookings to the US from holidaymakers in Canada, Mexico, and Japan due to Donald Trump’s trade tariffs, citing double-digit declines.

German demand for US trips has also fallen, though British travel to the US has not shown a significant change.

The economic uncertainties linked to tariffs have led to American and English travellers favouring domestic trips, with a reported 25pc increase in English domestic travel from July to September.

London ranks as the top destination for English staycationers, with Edinburgh, York, Blackpool, and Manchester following closely behind.

Irish visits to the USA were down 27pc in March but bounced back, up 34pc in April
