American Airlines App introduces delay transparency feature

American Airlines has rolled out a new digital feature this month that provides passengers with specific explanations for disruptions ranging from weather and air traffic control constraints to crew availability and mechanical issues directly within their booking experience.

The update now being introduced across the airline mobile app and website means passengers will no longer be limited to generic delayed or cancelled notifications.

The explanatory layer integrates into the actionable disruption platform that surfaces rebooking options alternative itineraries and where applicable hotel meal or transportation vouchers.

Passengers can track checked baggage monitor updated departure times and rebook flights directly within the app eliminating the need to queue at service desks.

The rollout comes at a time when American anticipates first quarter revenue growth of more than 10pc year over year.

Heather Garboden shared “Enhancing the digital experience is a priority for the team at American. By pairing self service tools with explanations we give customers greater transparency and more control throughout their journey because we believe clarity builds confidence especially during travel disruptions.”
