County Clare ranked 38 in the Global Destination Sustainability Index

County Clare has been ranked number 38 in the Global Destination Sustainability Index, joining other renowned cities like Paris, Singapore, Copenhagen, Melbourne, Milan, Barcelona, Berlin, and Helsinki in the top 40 of this benchmarking program, which assesses the progress of all 193 UN Member States on the SDGs.

The assessment considered 69 indicators across four key areas: environmental performance, social progress performance, supplier performance, and destination management performance.

Local agencies, the tourism trade, and government bodies, including Clare County Council and the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark, have worked towards improving sustainability in the region.

Joe Cooney, Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council said the inclusion of Clare in the Top 40 list serves as an inspiration to further enhance sustainability efforts and supports the Clare Tourism Strategy 2030.

Karen Ronan, General Manager of the Shannon Region Conference and Sports Bureau said the bureau, along with other stakeholders, is committed to promoting sustainable practices and achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals in the business tourism and events sector.
