The number of hotel contracts in County Clare used for emergency accommodation for Ukrainians has fallen from 31 contracts covering 2,610 at the end of February 2025 to 18 contracts with 141 beds by February 2026, a rreturn of over 1,569 beds to the tourism sector.
It has been described as a real opportunity for local businesses particularly in north and west Clare. Communities in the county showed remarkable generosity over four years while many Ukrainians have now secured homes or employment.
The reopening of this accommodation capacity is expected to increase visitor numbers, protect jobs and support the hospitality economy if coordinated with targeted promotion by Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Ireland.
