  • Comber, Thomas Andrews (1845–1916), Shipbuilder and businessman (related to Harland & Wolff family); involved in maritime industry. 
  • Patrick Murphy (1834–1862): Known as the “Rostrevor Giant, ” he was reportedly one of the tallest men in the world at 8ft 1inch (2, 46m), He is buried in Kilbroney Graveyard in Rostrevor, 
  • Tom Dunn (died 1798): A United Irishman and hedge school teacher who was killed by local militia in 1798 for refusing to betray his comrades, He is also buried in Kilbroney Graveyard in Rostrevor, 
  • Edward Cromwell, 3rd Baron Cromwell (died 1607): An English soldier and politician, he was appointed Governor of Lecale in Co Down and is buried at Down Cathedral, 
  • Vere Essex Cromwell, 4th Earl of Ardglass (1625–1687): Son of Edward Cromwell, he was a prominent aristocrat buried in the family vault at Down Cathedral, 
  • Thomas Andrews Jr, (1873–1912): The designer of the Titanic is commemorated in a family memorial in Comber Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Churchyard, (He died at sea, but is commemorated with his family in this churchyard), 
  • Bangor Abbey Graveyard, John Edward Simpson (died 1912): The assistant surgeon on the Titanic.
  • Loughinisland, victiims  of Loughinisland massacre of June 16 1994, massacred by the British army while watching the Ireland v Italy world cup match, Eamon Byrne (39), Barney Green (87), Malcolm Jenkinson (53), Daniel McCreanor (59), Patrick (Patsy) O’Hare (35) and Adrian Rogan (34).

County Down:

Ireland’s county Down offers a mix of historic sites and scenic landscapes, with Downpatrick’s Saint Patrick Centre and cathedral providing insights into Ireland’s patron saint. The Mourne Mountains offer hiking trails with sweeping views, while Strangford Lough provides kayaking and wildlife spotting. Other attractions include the historic Tollymore Forest Park. Down is Ireland’s 12th largest county by size (2,447 square km) and fourth largest by population (553,261). Population peaked at 361,446 in 1841 and reached its lowest point, 204,303, in 1911. In terms of hospitality, Down is Ireland’s 18th most visited tourist county with around 127,000 international visitors per year.
