- St. Brendan’s Church of Ireland, Birr, William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse Buried: (within the grounds of Birr Castle). Description: Renowned astronomer and engineer. He built the “Leviathan of Parsonstown,” the world’s largest telescope for over 70 years, at Birr Castle in the 1840s, making groundbreaking discoveries about the nature of nebulae.
